I have loved France (and almost everything
French!) for most of my life. In my early 20's I worked in Paris
for several years, where I learned the language. At the age of 51,
I decided to go to University (as a very mature student!) to do
a French degree, the 3rd year of which was spent at Perpignan University.
At the end of my studies, I taught French to adults for the University
of Wales.
My
husband, Hugh, also spent time working in France during his early
20's. Most of our holidays over the past 30 years were spent touring
around in a campervan, looking at properties, and dreaming of the
day when we could "retire" here.
Having decided
to open a Guest House in France when we "retired", we came to Normandy
to look for a suitable property. We found an old farmhouse, which
had been partially converted and which was surrounded by an acre
of garden, with lovely views. It needed a great deal of work, including
a new roof, but it had potential and, just as important, it felt
right.
After
major building works were completed, The Haven eventually opened
its doors. Since then, we have welcomed people from the UK and many
different parts of the world, including Australia, New Zealand,
Canada, the USA, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece,
Israel, Brazil, China and Scandinavia. The "je ne sais quoi" which
attracted us to this area, and to this house in particular, is constantly
enhanced by the pleasure of sharing it with others, and the tesimonials
are a source of great pleasure to us.
